About this site

Hi. I am a software developer by trade and a gamer at heart. I love photography. Both digital and analog.

Sometimes I share stuff that I find interesting or noteworthy.

About me

I am a software developer, gamer, and photographer from Germany.

My Work

In 2017 I finished secondary education (Abitur/Hochschulreife) and started my apprenticeship as a software developer. Three years later, I am a certified IHK Fachinformatiker für Anwendungsentwickler. Within those three years, I learned to structure software projects, debug applications, and design UI/UX.

I worked with PHP 5.6-8.1 on Zend Framework (later Laminas) applications. Additionally, I became the lead developer in two projects involving the newly released Angular 2.0 and Adobe InDesign plugins using the CEP. During this time I learned a lot about frontend development and desktop publishing and printing workflows.

After the three year apprenticeship and one additional year working at this company, I left and joined a new company to develop mobile applications. By and large I develop iOS, Android, and web apps using React, Angular, Ionic, CapacitorJS, Flutter, but also Kotlin with Jetpack Compose and Swift with SwiftUI. Additionally, I write backend code for Firebase Functions, NestJS and Strapi. Occasionally, I am involved in PHP projects using WordPress or other frameworks.

Photography

My photography journey started in 2014 when I was gifted my first digital camera. I like to try new motifs, but landscape and macro shots are my strong suit. Recently, over the past few years, I added videography to my skills since I got the EASA certification to fly a drone. Thus I learned HDR color grading and basic video editing with DaVinci Resolve.

To my surprise, the old cameras my father and mother kept around still work. A Rollei B35 and Minolta SRT303 and X500. Taking an interest in analog photography led me to acquire a Konica Big Mini 510 Z, a Rollei 35 AF and a Leica IIIf with a Canon 50mm F/1.8 lens. I tried various film stocks like Kodak Gold 200, Kodak Portra 160 and 200, Kodak Ektar 100, Harman Phoenix 200, Fujifilm C200, various Reflx Labs films, and some Rollei black and white films (Superpan 200 for infrared photography and RX200 / RX400).

Scanning images however, is a whole other topic.

Gaming

The first games I played were DOS games and Anno 1602. Being very young at that age didn't help me win against my older brothers but shaped what entertainment was for me. A big impact for me and the gaming industry was Minecraft. I started playing the game when you could buy the alpha only on their website using PayPal, but you got an insanely good Christmas deal: 2 for 1. Countless hours sunk into various games, my favorite genre crystallized: roguelikes.

Today I find myself playing on Linux Arch with Steam running Proton due to increasing dislike of Windows 11. HDR, VR, XBOX Wireless Controllers, Discord. Everything works™ with a bit of elbow grease. After all, Linux is free if you don't value your time.
